My name is Ben. It is Sunday, and I have a plan. Mum makes breakfast for us every morning. Today, I want to make something for her.

My sister, Lily, is older than me. She is reading in her room.

“Can you help me?” I ask.

“Of course. What can we make?”

“Bread with cheese, and a glass of milk!”

We go downstairs to the kitchen. Mum is still asleep, so we close the door softly. Lily gets the cheese from the fridge. I open the cupboard and take out the bread box.

But it is empty.

“There is no bread,” I say.

Lily looks inside the box, too. Then she looks at the clock.

“The shop is not open yet.”

I sit down. Our plan is not going very well.
